Planning to Attend the FIFA World Cup 2026? Don’t Wait to Apply for Your Visa
The White House and the U.S. Department of State have released an important message for international soccer fans planning to travel to the United States for the FIFA World Cup 2026™: if you need a U.S. visa, now is the time to apply.
With millions of visitors expected to travel to the United States for one of the largest sporting events in history, early planning will be essential.
What Did the White House Announce?
President Donald J. Trump stated that the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be: “A once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase the beauty and the greatness of America. And we can’t wait to welcome soccer fans from all over the globe.”
At the same time, the administration emphasized that protecting national security and public safety will remain a top priority and that all visa applicants will be subject to the standard U.S. immigration laws and screening procedures.
Who Needs a Visa?
According to the official guidance:
- Travelers from Visa Waiver Program Countries – Citizens of the 42 countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program may travel to the United States by obtaining an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), provided they meet all eligibility requirements.
- Canadian and Bermudan Citizens – Canadian and Bermudan passport holders generally do not require additional authorization to enter the United States as tourists.
- All Other International Visitors – Travelers from countries that are not part of the Visa Waiver Program must obtain a valid B1/B2 visitor visa before traveling to the United States for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

New FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System (PASS)
The Department of State also announced the FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System (PASS). Under this program, individuals who purchase official FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets directly through FIFA, and choose to participate in FIFA PASS may receive an opportunity to interview for a B1/B2 visitor visa before the tournament begins. This initiative is intended to help legitimate travelers obtain visa appointments in time for the event.
Passport Requirements
Visitors traveling to the United States should ensure that:
- Their passport is valid for at least six months beyond their intended stay (unless their country is exempt from this requirement).
- They possess the appropriate travel authorization before making final travel plans.
Important Immigration Considerations
While FIFA PASS may provide priority access to a visa interview, it does not guarantee visa approval or admission into the United States. Every applicant must independently establish eligibility for a visitor visa under U.S. immigration law, and consular officers retain full discretion to approve or deny applications. Additionally, the following factors may affect an individual’s eligibility for a visitor visa or admission into the United States:
- Prior immigration violations,
- Previous visa denials,
- Unlawful presence,
- Removal orders,
- Criminal history, or
- Misrepresentation
Why You Should Apply Early
Demand for visitor visas is expected to increase significantly as the tournament approaches. Waiting until the last minute could result in limited appointment availability, processing delays, administrative processing and/or inability to obtain a visa before scheduled travel. Beginning the application process as early as possible provides the best opportunity to resolve any issues before the tournament.
